The Parnassus Heights is the oldest and the largest of the University of California, San Francisco campuses. It houses basic science, clinical and translational research programs. It is also home to UCSF’s Colleges of dentistry, medicine, pharmacy as well as its School of Nursing. After successfully developing the 60 acre Mission Bay campus, attention is now being directed toward the 107 acre Parnassus campus where half the buildings are at least 50 years old. The goal is to re-imagine the campus in a way that both fosters advances in the ever changing fields of health sciences and harnesses the power of new, data-driven, technology.

UC San Diego’s Geriatric Emergency Room has received a Level 1 designation, the highest and most comprehensive level of accreditation awarded by the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP). Located on the La Jolla campus, it is California’s first geriatric emergency room. It is one of eight geriatric ERs in the U.S. to earn accreditation.

UC San Diego’s new outpatient pavilion, which opened in March of this year, has been named the Koman Family Outpatient Clinic in tribute to Bill and Amy Koman and their family. The cancer research advocates have raised millions for the La Jolla campus’ medical facilities over the past 18 years.Their philanthropic efforts have focused on supporting collaborative cancer research at Moores Cancer Center at UC San Diego Health, Salk Institute, Sanford-Burnham Prebys Medical Center and Rady Children’s Hospital, San Diego and now the outpatient pavilion. The couple founded the Padres Pedal the Cause, an annual cycling event that raised $20 million between its inception in 2010 and 2016, according to an article in Ranch & Coast Magazine.

Longwood Medical Area in Boston is one of the densest medical communities in the country. The 213-acre neighborhood houses four teaching hospitals, a medical school, and a diabetes research center and clinic. Five of those institutions — Boston Children’s Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and Joslin Diabetes Center are affiliated with Harvard Medical School, which relies on them to train its students. In September 2017, Boston Children’s Hospital began construction of a $1 billion state-of-the-art clinical building.

University of Cincinnati’s Medical Campus Master Plan entered its second phase with the start of construction on two new buildings. The Health Sciences Building will become the new home of the University’s College of Allied Health. The other new building will house the UC Gardner Neuroscience Institute. The construction is part of a $480 million project aimed to keep the university on the cutting edge of education, medical care, and research.

The University of Rutgers recently opened the Adult Clinical Research Center on its New Brunswick campus. The Adult Clinical Research Center (CRC) is part of the Robert Wood Johnson University school of Medicine. The center outgrew its previous location on the third floor of the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and now occupies the 8th floor of the new East Tower medical building adjacent to the Hospital. This 11,646 square foot facility will make it possible for the CRC to double the number of studies they conduct over the next three years. Currently, there are 36 active and 20 pending clinical trials.

On June 6th Columbia University celebrated the opening of the new state-of-the-art building that is to be the home of their School of Nursing. The seven-story, 68,000 square foot facility is designed to give students an ultramodern learning experience that will prepare them for work as clinicians, researchers, and educators. This building was funded in part by the University's $25M capitol campaign.

On April 20th UCLA celebrated the grand reopening of the Jules Stein Building after a $65M renovation. This building connects to the Doris Stein Building and the Edie & Lew Wasserman Building to make up the UCLA Stein Eye Institute. Combined, the three buildings provide nearly 300,000 square feet of functional space with over 20 specially equipped laboratories to support vision science investigations.

The University of Pennsylvania was established in 1740. It became the home to the nation’s first hospital and medical school, which were both founded by Benjamin Franklin. Now a new chapter in Penn Medicine’s history is about to begin. Construction of the New Patient Pavilion started in September of 2016. This new 13-story medical building will include 500 inpatient rooms as well as a relocated and expanded Emergency Department.
