New Life Science Funding: U. Pitt Receives $10.4M Grant

Researchers at the University of Pittsburgh recently received $10.4 million in life science funding from the NIH at the end of July this year. The administering center for the award at the NIH was the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences, and the life science funding will be given to the University of Pittsburgh Clinical and Translational Science Institute. Life Science Funding Worth $3.5M Awarded to Harvard University

Researchers at Harvard University’s Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering recently received $3.5 million in life science funding from the NIH. The grant is called a Transformative Research Award. The NIH’s aim in creating this grant is to fund high-risk, high-reward research. According to News Medical, the NIH funded only 10 of these projects in 2013, one of which is Harvard University’s DNA-based microscopy method of viewing cells.

$2.6M in Life Science Funding Awarded to Thomas Jefferson University

According to recent NIH and NSF funding statistics, the NIH awarded Thomas Jefferson University $49.7 million in research funding in 2012. In addition to receiving NIH research funding, Thomas Jefferson University received $318,984 in NSF life science funding for life science projects alone.

New Life Science Funding: Two Grants Total $26M at Washington University

Researchers at Washington University in St. Louis recently received a great deal of life science research funding for leukemia research. The National Cancer Institute, part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), gave the university two grants totaling $26 million. The money will be given to leukemia researchers and physicians at Siteman Cancer Center at the Washington University School of Medicine, according to St. Louis American Local News.

The University of Alabama at Birmingham recently received a $4.6 million life science research funding grant from the NIH for the school’s Center for Clinical and Translational Science. Dr. Robert Kimberly is listed as the project leader. According to the University of Alabama, Dr. Kimberly is Senior Associate Dean for Research and Director of the University of Alabama at Birmingham Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Center (AMC). He is also a rheumatologist and immunologist  whose research interests include autoimmune disease, systemic lupus erythematosus, systemic vasculitis and rheumatoid arthritis.
