UC Davis: Major Cancer Research Funding Awarded by NCI

UC Davis Medical Center is home to one of only 49 National Cancer Institute (NCI) designated comprehensive cancer centers. The UC Davis Center is the only comprehensive cancer center in California’s Central Valley and inland northern California. It serves a region with a population of roughly 6 million people. The Center has $63 million in NHI and California Healthcare Institute funding.  

The NCI, a division of the NIH, awards University of California, Davis roughly $200 million annually to conduct cancer research.

Proctor & Gamble to Give $10 Million to Cincinnati Cancer Center

Proctor & Gamble will give to give $10 Million to support research and outcomes at Cincinnati Cancer Center (CCC), a collaboration of the University of Cincinnati (UC), UC Health, and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. The gift will fund recruitment and research enhancements that will assist with the center’s pursuit of achieving the designation of Comprehensive Cancer Center from the National Center Institute.

UAB Cancer Research Center: $14.5M in NCI Funding This Year

Last year, the University of Alabama at Birmingham Comprehensive Cancer Center was awarded a five-year, $29 million grant for the National Cancer Institute. The Cancer Center now receives nearly $6M a year in NCI core funding and will continue to do so through 2021. In addition to this core grant, UAB CCC has received over $8.5M in research funding from the NCI during the first half of 2017. This brings their total NCI funding to $14.5 million.

$29M Core Grant Awarded to Alabama for Cancer Research Center

University of Alabama at Birmingham received a $29 million grant from the National Cancer Institute. This five year core grant will support six research programs at the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center. The renewal of the Cancer Center Support Grant, the most prestigious federal grant that a cancer research and treatment program can earn, also extends UAB’s elite “comprehensive” designation. According to the UAB News website this designation is awarded for scientific excellence and the ability to integrate diverse research approaches in the fight against cancer.

UMich Receives $17.5M Funding for Cancer Research

This $17.5 million donation will establish the Forbes Institute for Cancer Discovery within the UMich Cancer Center.

The Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor is one of only 45 comprehensive cancer centers in the United States, and provides cutting-edge cancer research. Researchers from 48 different university departments and 9 schools work together in the cancer center to find answers to some of the toughest questions that scientists face when learning about cancer. The university and Cancer Center will soon be expanding their research capabilities thanks to a generous $17.5 million donation from philanthropists Madeline and Sydney Forbes
