Five University of South Florida (USF) Professors received 2018 Excellence in Innovation Awards from the university’s chapter of the National Academy of Inventors in September. USF Research News states that the faculty were recognized for inventing and patenting new technology, creating startup companies and securing research grants and outside investment funding as well as supporting student innovators in research projects.

Scientists at Harvard Medical have made a recent breakthrough in cancer therapy research with the help of three separate grants from the National Institutes of Health, totaling over $1,153,000.

A laboratory testing kit developed at the University of North Carolina Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Developed by Chuck Perou, PhD and professor of genetics and pathology, the testing kit estimates the risk of breast cancer relapse even in cases of anti-hormone treatment. According to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, other scientists who worked with Perou include Dr. Joel Parker and Dr. Maggie Cheang at the University of North Carolina.
