Five University of South Florida (USF) Professors received 2018 Excellence in Innovation Awards from the university’s chapter of the National Academy of Inventors in September. USF Research News states that the faculty were recognized for inventing and patenting new technology, creating startup companies and securing research grants and outside investment funding as well as supporting student innovators in research projects.

The Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) awarded more than $9 million in research grants to Texas A&M University. Of the $9,057,870 in funding from CPRIT, more than $7.7 million is for academic research and $1.35 million is for a prevention grant. Eight grants were awarded by CPRIT. The largest was $5,793,075 to the recently established Center for Advanced Microscopy and Image Informatics (CAMII) in the Institute of Biosciences and Technology, College of Medicine.

The National Atmospheric Deposition Program's (NADP) Central Analytical Laboratory and Program Office has moved to the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus and is now located in the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene (WSLH) building in Henry Mall. Across the campus in the University Research Park, Exact Sciences has started construction on a corporate headquarters building.
