The $515M Health Education Campus, a collaboration project between Case Western Reserve University and Cleveland Clinic, is scheduled to open this summer. The campus’ centerpiece facility is going to be named the Sheila and Eric Samson Pavilion in recognition of their significant contribution to the project. Mr. Samson, executive chairman of Macsteel Holdings, had a successful heart surgery performed by the former CEO and president of Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Toby Cosgrove and is a member of Cleveland Clinic’s International Leadership Board. This recent donation by Mr. Samson and his wife is among the largest to be received by the clinic.

The $10M grant, which was given jointly to The University of Georgia, Athens and George Washington University, will be used to build a glycoscience informatics portal, called GlyGen. This portal is essential for glycoscience to advance. GlyGen will also incorporate glycan data with gene and protein data, to allow for greater analysis.

According to the Vice President of Research the University was awarded 2,326 grants in 2018 and had $515 million in research funding. According to the National Institutes of Health, the university received $152,843,112 from them this year.

USC recently opened the USC Stevens Hall for Neuroimaging, the new home for the Mark and Mary Stevens Neuroimaging and Informatics Institute.
