UCLA: $3.7M NIH Grant for Brain Imaging Technology Research

Posted by Gloria Beverage on Tue, Nov 27, 2018

A unique opportunity to advance research into the function of the human brain has been presented to three UCLA neuroscientists. Michele Basso, Dr. Peyman Golshani and Daniel Aharoni have received a $3.7 million, three-year grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to develop imaging technology to record tens of thousands of neurons with the intent of learning how disease impacts the brain’s function.

UC Berkeley Researchers Finding Ways to Edit Brain Activity

Posted by Rebecca Inch-Partridge on Fri, May 18, 2018

UC Berkeley neuroscientists are creating technology that can fool the brain into thinking it has felt, seen or sensed something that it has not. The goal is to read neural activity and learn which sets of neurons to activate in order to simulate the pattern of an actual brain response. This technique might someday be used to replace lost sensations after peripheral nerve damage or control a prosthetic limb.
