A New $7 million Emergency Critical Care Center Planned at U-M

Last week the University of Michigan announced a plan to establish a new 7,800-square-foot Emergency Critical Care Center, or EC3, through close partnerships between the University of Michigan Health System’s adult emergency department and ICU teams. Rockefeller University Planning a New $240 Million Research Building

Columbia Researchers found Possible Cause of Prostate Cancer

Two genes, FOXM1 and CENPF, have been found to work together and drive the progression of the most lethal forms of prostate cancer. New research from the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center at the Columbia University Medical Center suggests that neither gene alone significantly contributes to prostate cancer but when both genes are turned on, they work synergistically to activate pathways associated with the most aggressive form of the cancer.

UC Davis Medical Center Speeding up Life Science Research

An Overview of the Michigan Life Science Infrastructure

The Michigan Life Science Corridor is a life science research consortium based at four Michigan universities: Michigan State University, the University of Michigan, the Van Andel Institute in Grand Rapids, and Wayne State University. It was established in 1999 with a $1 billion state tobacco lawsuit settlement and provided a network of advanced technology laboratories for academic researchers. The state of Michigan plans to award $50 million annually for the next 20 years to the consortium to continue to accelerate life science research and cutting edge discoveries.

Mayo Clinic Raising $3 Billion for Research

This month the Mayo Clinic has announced the official beginning of a $3 billion philanthropic fundraising campaign to accelerate the pace of research, to solve unmet needs of patients, and to improve the quality of health care. Mayo clinic has so far raised more than half the money, or $1.7 billion, since the quiet phase of the campaign began in 2010. The campaign will continue until December 31, 2017.
