USC Received $3 Million to Improve Community Dental Health

A $3 million grant from the Hutto-Patterson Charitable Foundation has enabled the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry at University of Southern California and the USC School of Social work to team up to establish the Hutto-Patterson Institute for community dental health. The money will be used to purchase an eight-chair mobile clinic trailer, as well as provide funds and scholarships for faculty members and students who work in the university’s outreach programs. This significant funding will allow the University of Southern California to reach its goal of providing services to more than 45,000 underserved children in the Children’s Health and Maintenance Program (CHAMP).

A New $105 Million Expansion in Cancer Research at University of Utah

An official groundbreaking ceremony for a new 220,000-square-foot, $105 million expansion in the Primary Children’s and Families’ Cancer Research Center at Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI) at the University of Utah was held recently. The construction is slated for completion in 2016 and is doubling the research space within the Huntsman Cancer Institute.

Gifts of $29M Given to Rockefeller University Research Programs

Five new private gifts of over $29 million will be given to Rockefeller University to help the university go through the current federal budget cuts. The gifts range in size from $3 million to $10 million and are a part of fundraising campaign for Collaborative Science, which set up at 2008.

OSU Received $21 Million in Investment to Create Neurotechnology Hub

Ohio State University received a $21 million investment from the Ohio Third Frontier to create a consortium of groups, termed the Neurotechnology Innovations Translator, or NIT, to help create neurotechnology companies and high-tech jobs in Ohio. This four-year funding from the Ohio Third Frontier has brought the total commitment for the NIT to more than $140 million toward establishing a neurotechnology hub in the State of Ohio.

$3.6 Million Given to MSU to Prevent Disease Spread in Animals

Michigan State University has received more than $3.6 million to study diseases spread in animals. Three grants worth $2.7 million came from the United States Department of Agriculture, which will help farmers protect livestock and increase food security and production in the nation. An additional $907,000 came from National Science Foundation Faculty Early Career Development grant, which is one of NSF’s most prestigious awards for pre-tenured faculty. The grant from NSF will help researchers at Michigan State university study West Nile virus and Bird flu.
