$900M in New Funding Raised Through Campaign at WSU Pullman

Five Cincinnati Researchers Win Grants for Breast Cancer Research

Summer is just around the corner, and for many this means more time to spend  on outdoor activities.  This last Sunday saw an excellent incentive to start the summer biking with the Ride Cincinnati event, an effort to raise money for breast cancer studies while encouraging the public to be active. This annual event awards grants to select cancer researchers in the area; this year five researchers from the University of Cincinnati won a combined $200,000 in grants for their outstanding research.

Two New Medical Buildings Funded by $117M at Columbia

WSU Anthropologist Discovered Clues to First Americans

Washington State University molecular anthropologist Brian Kemp used genetic method to address classic questions about the entrance of humans into the Americas. Professor Kemp studied genetic information that extracted from the tooth of an adolescent girl, Naia, who fell into a sinkhole in the Yucatan 12,000 to 13,000 years ago. His discovery will help resolve a longstanding debate about the origins of the first inhabitants of the Americas and the possible connection between the first people and modern Native Americans.

UAB: A Renewed Cancer Center for Translational Research

Adjusting Autophagy at Ann Arbor

Autophagy is known to play a role in many human diseases but the nature of said role is somewhat open to debate. Hoping to shed some light on the matter, bioresearchers at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor have found a genetic link that allows for regulation of autophagy.

New Research Grant Worth $5.6M Awarded to USC

The University of Southern California recently received a new research grant worth $5.6 million from the National Institutes of Health for the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center. The administering organization was the National Cancer Institute, and the project leader is Dr. Stephen Gruber, a Professor of Medicine at the Keck School of Medicine and the H. Leslie Hoffman and Elaine S. Hoffman Chair in Cancer Research.

UT Austin Remains Active in Research in 2014

Science Research Funding Increases by $8M in 12 Months at UCR

Federal science research funding has taken a great leap at the University of California, Riverside in the past 12 months: an $8 million leap, to be exact, in federally funded new research grants. UC Riverside aspires to gain a bigger market share over the next five years. Currently, the university is in the top 100 universities for federally funded research. By working on innovative projects and increasing the UC Riverside influence in the science research community, UC Riverside hopes to reach the top 50 universities in coming years. The University of California, Riverside campus aims to triple funding in about ten years, requiring an annual growth of about 14 percent.
