University of Pittsburgh Awarded $444.2M in Research Funding

The University of Pittsburgh has a great influence on the western Pennsylvania bioresearch community, making it one of the most highly-funded markets in the Northeast for laboratory equipment sales. According to the latest NIH and NSF research funding statistics, the University of Pittsburgh was awarded at least $444.2 million in research funding in 2012. The NIH awarded the University of Pittsburgh $419.5 million in 2012. The research funding was spread out over a number of research projects across various departments at the university. For the convenience of our readers, we have compiled a list broken down by the number of projects awarded research funding in some of the science research disciplines and the total amount of funding for those projects. Emory University Receives $274.2M in Research Funding

Emory University is an incredibly well-funded environment, especially when given recent NSF and NIH research funding statistics. In total, Emory University received $274.2 million in research funding in 2012. The NSF awarded the university $10.6 million of research funding in 2012, and the money was spread out over a number of different departments at Emory University. Of the research funding, $2.1 million went towards bio research projects alone. Among the various life science programs of study awarded funding were neural systems, genetic mechanisms, systems and synthetic biology, physiology and structural systems, and cellular dynamics and function.

University of Nevada Reno: $80 Million in Research Expenditures

Established in 1874, about 300 miles from its current location, University of Nevada, Reno began with a single building that contained the president's and registrar's offices, along with classrooms, a library, a museum, and a place of residence for the grounds keeper. This location ultimately was changed because the bulk of the population of Nevada resided in the Carson City, Reno area. This resulted in the permanent move in the year of 1885 from Elko, Nevada to its present location in Reno, Nevada.
