3 UC San Diego Research Programs Receive Grants Totaling Over $28M

Multi-million-dollar grants have been awarded to three research programs at the University of California San Diego. Funding covers research on the impact of aerosol on the atmosphere, development of software tools that run on supercomputers and the study of acute kidney failure and acute kidney injuries.

UC San Diego Receives $50M Gift for Eye Disease Research

Renowned communications pioneer Andrew J. Viterbi has given $50 million to the University of California San Diego in honor of his father, ophthalmologist Achille Viterbi. The gift will result in the founding of the Viterbi Family Department of Ophthalmology and the Viterbi Family Vision Research Center as well as establish six new endowed faculty chairs.

U-Minnesota’s 2018 Capital Budget includes over $274M for Science Buildings

The University of Minnesota is investing $274,673,000 in new construction and remodel work of science buildings on the Twin City’s campus. They have broken ground on the new $108.6M Health Sciences Education Center. In addition, according to the 2018 Annual Capital Budget for U-Minn they have also approved $6,600,000 for the construction of a new Plant Growth Research Facility. The budget also includes $2,381,000 for the Institute for Health Informatics Remodel.  Finally, the university will undertake an $8,400,000 renovation of the Biological Sciences Center.

UChicago's $270 Million Makeover Includes New ER with Level I Trauma Center

With trauma patients just a few minutes delay in treatment can make the difference between life and death. However South Chicago has been without a trauma center since 1991. This means trauma patients have to be transported nearly 10 miles away to receive the specialized services they need. The $270 million makeover happening at the University of Chicago's Hyde Park campus seeks to resolve that issue. The new $39 million adult emergency department that opened at U Chicago Medicine in December will become an integrated trauma care facility within the next few months.
