Protein-Folding Diseases: Models & Mechanisms - Research Symposium

Protein-Folding Diseases: Models & Mechanisms

Symposium - Cambridge, United States

This one-day Symposium will focus on how misfolded proteins contribute to disease and disease processes at the cellular and whole-organism level, highlighting the diverse biological models that can be used to address this issue. It is becoming increasingly clear that protein misfolding underlies many disease states, including neurodegenerative diseases, prion diseases, type 2 diabetes, cystic fibrosis and cancer. In addition, it is thought to contribute to the normal process of aging. Please join us on Tuesday, September 4th, 2012, at The Broad Institute, to hear the latest advances in this area from ten world-renowned experts in the field.

The Symposium is organized by Susan Lindquist (MIT) and Vivian Siegel, (The Broad Institute, and Editor-in-Chief of Disease Models & Mechanisms).

13th International Congress on Yeasts (ICY 2012) – Yeasts for a sustainable future

Conference - Madison, WI, US

The 13th International Congress on Yeasts is sponsored by the International Commission on Yeasts as part of the International Union of Microbiological Societies. The ICY has been held once every four years since 1955. It provides an opportunity for presenting the latest research progress in yeast metabolism, physiology, genetics, genomics, regulation, ecology, systematics, phylogeny, food and beverage applications, biofuel production and clinical applications.

Neuroscience Research Conference: Third Annual Aspen Brain Forum

Cracking the Neural Code: Third Annual Aspen Brain Forum

Neuroscience Conference - Aspen, CO, United States

One of the greatest challenges in neuroscience today is deciphering how the activity of individual neurons and neuronal circuits gives rise to higher order cognition and behavior. This meeting will bring together leading researchers working at the forefront of systems and computational neuroscience to discuss cutting-edge developments in our quest to crack the neural code. Plenary talks will include advances in tools, technologies, imaging, informatics, and computational models for mapping neural networks.

Keynote speakers will feature Drs. Christof Koch and Allan Jones (The Allen Institute), David Van Essen (Washington University in St. Louis), Sean Hill (Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne), and George Church (Harvard Medical School).
