Spotlight on Science Meetings, Conferences and Events brings you information on the following: Advances in Prenatal Molecular Diagnostics 2017 to be held on 11/28/17 - 11/29/17.
Cell-free DNA-based screening and the potential for cell-based screening has upended the field of prenatal testing. While cell-free tests are being used more and more in the clinic, cell-based tests are still on the cusp of commercialization. With both types of tests still in need of improvements in order to truly replace invasive tests, the near-term challenge is determining where the field heads once both options are viable. This meeting will discuss updated comparisons and examine the implementation, insurance, and clinical challenges associated with each test.
Furthermore, with advances in DNA amplification and sequencing comes greater opportunity to garner more information. Much discussion needs to take place in regards to the role of preconception counseling, expanded carrier screening, whole genome versus whole exome sequencing, and the effect these and any prenatal testing may have on the decision to continue a pregnancy or perform fetal therapy.

Spotlight on Science Meetings, Conferences and Events brings you information on the following: Pharmaceutical Microbiology East Coast 2017 to be held on 11/13/17 - 11/14/17.
The demand for rapid microbiology in the pharmaceutical industry is at an all-time high, with regulatory bodies expressing their concern about product safety, and the microbiology market constantly growing.
This continuous expanding of the market brings many new challenges, which need to be addressed to ensure prevention of contamination and other safety issues.
SMi’s Pharmaceutical Microbiology East Coast conference will not only discuss the challenges facing the microbiology field regarding the topic of contamination control and cleanrooms, but also take a closer look at strategies for rapid microbial sterility testing, the importance of environmental monitoring to prevent potential risks, bacterial endotoxin testing, quality control and new technologies, as well as regulatory issues and updates, such as the new draft of the annex 1.
The 2017 East Coast programme will feature industry relevant presentations and case studies, and an all-new senior professional speaker line-up. Join us this November to expand your knowledge in the microbiology field at this unmissable networking conference!

Spotlight on Science Meetings, Conferences and Events brings you information on the following: Keystone Symposia: Rigor in Science - The Challenge of Reproducibility in Biomedical Research to be held on 11/08/17.
Every researcher has a story about a compelling result that didn’t reproduce. Sometimes this is due to technical challenges or the experimental approach. However, there are also biological mechanisms that contribute to irreproducible results, and their importance is increasingly recognized by researchers, drug developers, funding agencies, and the general public.
In this discussion, we consider the issue of data reproducibility in preclinical research through a biological lens, focusing on often-neglected variables such as sex, age, microbiome, and circadian rhythms. The roundtable brings together stakeholders from across the biomedical enterprise to explore practical ways of controlling for these variables to maximize the translational potential of preclinical research. The participants include investigators Michael Holtzman, Dana Philpott, and Jeffrey Haspel, who encounter these variables in their research; Patricia Valdez, representing the NIH Extramural Research Integrity Office; and NPR Science Correspondent Richard Harris, who moderates the discussion and brings a lay perspective.
The goal of the discussion is to explore both the tensions and opportunities for exciting science that irreproducible results create in preclinical research. It also considers economical ways for researchers to address biological drivers of irreproducible results, to comply with new standards set out by funding agencies, and to enhance the potential of their work to lead to novel therapies.
