The University of Michigan just opened a new $261 million, five-story, 312,000 square-foot science building. This impressive building will mostly feature wet and dry lab work, housing the university's departments of Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, as well as Paleontology. The building also includes an area with advanced plant growth facilities, a team-based classroom on the first floor that seats 138 people, and two specimen laboratories.
The University of Michigan provides their researchers with state-of-the-art facilities and encourages their researchers to be innovative with support and gratitude. At $1.5 billion in total R&D, the University of Michigan is the top public university in research spending in the United States. Life science research receives more than $826 million of that funding.
