UIC Research Accomplishments and Funding Future

Vice Chancellor for Research Joe G.N. Garcia had overall good news to announce in his Feb. 16, 2011 report on the state of research and funding at the University of Illinois, Chicago.  The most promising statistic is that UIC has turned a corner with regard to sponsored research funding: for the first time in five years, funding increased, from $347M to $412M for the fiscal year ending in 2010.  (The previous year had actually shown a decline.)

UCSB Center for Energy Efficient Materials Research Overview

UCSB's Center for Energy Efficient Materials (CEEM) was launched in August 2009 with $19million in funding from the Dept. of Basic Energy Sciences, a branch of the DOE. CEEM's mission is to help solve some of the world's most pressing energy problems, drawing on UCSB's strength in materials science research.

CIRM and UCLA Broad Stem Cell Research Center positioned for success

How to do sales well at scientific trade shows

Any science supply company can purchase a booth or tabletop display at a national or boutique science related trade show, send a sales rep and some literature, and if the  product is good  they will likely get leads. The best leads --the most eager, most relevant and most urgent leads-- usually convert to sales.  The best sales reps get more leads, follow up on them faster, and communicate the company's value proposition better, converting more of them to sales than their less competent counterparts.

TAMU Texas A&M University Research Funding

Texas A&M University, College Station

The National Institute of Health recently awarded Texas A&M University with a $3.5 million grant to improve upon the laboratory research facilities in the Interdisciplinary Life Sciences Building.  The $100 Million facility opened its doors last year.  Improvement funding was aimed at divisions such as structural biology, molecular virology, and drug discovery.  It will add 12,000 square feet of space to the 200,000 square foot building.
