$20M Gift to Establish New UCSF Center for Mood Disorders

The Dolby family is a longtime supporter of UC San Francisco. In 2015, the Ray and Dagmar Dolby Family Fund gifted UCSF’s Department of Psychiatry $20 million to support research on mood disorders and treatment programs. Now Dagmar Dolby and her son David are donating another $20 million to the university to launch the UCSF Dolby Family Center for Mood Disorders. Faculty and clinics under this new center’s umbrella will be housed in either of two state-of-the-art buildings under construction on the Mission Bay Campus: the Child, Teen and Family Center, which will also house the Department of Psychiatry, and the Joan and Sanford I. Weill Neurosciences Building.

CU Anschutz, Sciences Institute awarded $46.5M Grant from NIH

Colorado University Anschutz Medical Campus and its partner, Colorado Clinical and Transitional Sciences Institute (CCTSI), recently received a new five-year $46.5 million grant from the National Institute of Health (NIH).

“The general public may not know the CCTSI name,” Dr. Sokol, CCTSI director and professor of pediatrics in the School of Medicine, stated in an article for CU Anschutz Today. “But they have probably benefited from the research that has come out of our institute over the past 10 years.”

Since its inception, Institute staff have conducted research that has led to a cure for hepatitis C; developed treatments for cystic fibrosis; boosted the rates of health screenings in underserved Colorado communities; and developed community-based approaches to teaching CPR.

Washington University Receives $46M to Support Translational Research

Chemistry2.jpgWashington University in St. Louis has 1 of 57 Institutes of Clinical and Translation Sciences (ICTS) in the United States. The ICTS at Washington University focuses on translating discoveries from both translation and clinical research into new treatments and therapies. The ICTS does not focus on just one area of life science research. Instead, researchers from all spectrums on the health sciences are able to use the institutes resources to further their work on topics like disease prevention and treatment.
