Workshop on Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ARTs) in the Laboratory Mouse

This hands-on workshop teaches participants to use Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ARTs) to efficiently manage mouse strains. Topics covered include:
• Cryobiology and strain archival
• Colony expansion
• Strain rescue
• Rederivation
• Genetic stability
• How to overcome breeding problems using ARTs
Hands-on techniques covered include:
• Embryo handling
• Embryo and sperm cryopreservation and recovery
• Surgical and non-surgical embryo transfer
• In-vitro fertilization
• Flushing embryos
• Vasectomy
• Superovulation
• Ovarian transplantation
• Inducing pseudopregnancy
Aseptic surgical techniques, biomethods and project planning will also be covered.  Participants completing this course will obtain the information they need to implement ARTs when they return to their institution.
