Spotlight on Science Meetings, Conferences and Events brings you information on the following: Cardiovascular Review Course for Cardiology Boards and Recertification to be held on 8/27/17 - 8/31/17
Mayo Clinic Cardiovascular Review Course for Cardiology Boards and Recertification (CVBR) will provide the cardiologist and internist with an overview of all aspects of cardiovascular medicine. Well-known experts in each field will give in-depth, engaging lectures on state-of-the-art subjects in cardiovascular medicine. Each lecture will be followed by a question and answer session with an audience response system. Although this course is designed specifically to prepare the cardiovascular specialist for the cardiovascular boards, it will also provide the practicing cardiologist or internist with an update on the latest knowledge and advances in cardiovascular medicine.
COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES
We have included a sampling of our 164 CVBR course objectives for your review. Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:
- Describe the etiology and pathophysiology of restrictive and other non-dilated cardiomyopathies and use this information to effectively diagnose and manage patients
- Recognize and diagnose venous thromboembolism (VTE) and pulmonary embolism using the appropriate algorithm for VTE diagnosis based on a pretest probability of disease assessment strategy
- Identify cardiovascular disease risk factors in patients without known CAD and use them to predict the risk of future coronary events
- Identify the classification and mechanisms of action of antiarrhythmic agents
- Explain the physiologic changes that occur with pregnancy
For a full list of our course objectives, please contact us at cvcme@mayo.edu.
INTENDED AUDIENCE
This course is intended for cardiologists, cardiovascular fellows, and general internists who want both a live forum and online platform to continue learning year-round. This option includes both admission to a 5-day live course in Rochester, Minnesota and the use of the online personalized and adaptive course before, during, and after your attendance (one year subscription).

Spotlight on Science Meetings, Conferences and Events brings you information on the following: IPF Summit to be held on 8/21/17 - 8/23/17
The inaugural Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) Summit is the only event to focus solely on IPF.
This unique meeting is your opportunity to join the leading minds across biopharma and academia to reduce the expansive translational gap that exists in current IPF drug development.
Across 3 jam-packed days the brightest minds from the likes of Boehringer Ingelheim, Promedior, Fibrogen and many more will be sharing their insight and lessons learned to collectively enable the community to:
- Effectively translate into the clinic by better recapitulating IPF through robust in vitro and vivo models
- Define more meaningful preclinical endpoints to aid identification of novel targets and development of more effective IPF therapeutics
- Validate non-invasive biomarker and diagnostic techniques for back translation and ultimately achieve greater clinical benefit

Spotlight on Science Meetings, Conferences and Events brings you information on the following event: 2017 2nd DNA Replication as a Source of DNA Damage Conference
The maintenance of genome integrity is critical for the suppression of cancer and premature ageing. Only recently has it become appreciated that DNA replication stress is a crucial driver of genomic instability. The timely progression of replisomes can be disrupted by lesions and secondary structures in the template, by bound proteins and by conflicts with the transcription machinery. A prolonged pause of the replisome then exposes single stranded DNA, which, due to its recombinogenic nature, can lead to genome rearrangements, fragile site expression and cell death. Importantly, some cancers present excessive endogenous levels of replication stress, which can be exploited for their clearance. In this conference, we aim to bring together scientists studying DNA replication and repair, with those interested in how DNA damage can influence cancer and ageing.
