Duke Medical Center Expands into New Medical Center in Orange County

Posted by Jennifer Nieuwkerk on Fri, Oct 05, 2012

Duke Medical Plaza in Orange County, North Carolina, recently opened its doors for the first time. The medical center includes 25,000 square feet of office space and contains Duke Primary Care Hillsborough, North Carolina Orthopaedic Clinic, and Duke Physical and Occupational Therapy at its South Churton Street location. The new center held an open house after they opened, and when visitors learned of Duke Primary Care’s previous location on Meadowland Drive, many said they never knew Duke had a clinic in the Orange County seat.

“We found that even though we had been at 405 Meadowland [Drive] for a long time, when we had our open house, we learned that a lot of patients didn’t know that we were here,” said Monica Crews, practice manager for Duke Primary Care Hillsborough, in an interview with the News of Orange County. “We just moved from Meadowland here, but it’s been great. We’ve received a lot of new patients just waiting to get in to see, to establish care here.”

Duke Primary Care’s move to the new medical center allowed the clinic to hire two new healthcare providers: Dr. Eugenie Komvives and physician’s assistant Leanne Owens. The clinic will also be able to use the x-ray machines, lab, orthopedic clinic and physical therapy unit housed by Duke Medical Plaza.

Duke Primary Care has been a top quality primary care clinic in Orange County for several years.  According to DukeHealth.org, the clinic provides for physicals, acute visits, on-site lab and x-ray services, and chronic disease management, including diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, hypertension, asthma and heart disease.

The North Carolina Orthopaedic Clinic will also be a great attribute to the Orange County Community. The North Carolina Orthopaedic Clinic website lists surgery of the spine, sports medicine and cartilage restoration, hand surgery, joint replacement surgery, foot and ankle surgery and podiatry among the lists of services they offer. Duke Physical and Occupational Therapy offers a variety of treatments as well, including aquatic physical therapy, driving evaluations, functional capacity evaluations, hyperbaric medicine, lymphedema management, and splinting and casting.

Monica Crews believes that Duke Primary Care’s move will allow for better service and care for patients. Increased parking and a location on a main street in Hillsborough will also make Duke Medical Plaza more convenient for customers. No doubt the Orange County community will greaty benefit from the new medical community and improved care.
