Investments in Infrastructure Ongoing at UColorado

This month the University of Colorado’s research budget was expanded by a $10 million grant from the NIH. This five-year grant will enable the university to continue its partnership with Duke University in the development of the Palliative Care Research Cooperative Group (PCRC).

This collaborative research group was established in 2010 under the initial NIH funding. It aims to promote best practices for relieving suffering and improving quality of life for seriously ill patients.

Under the pressure of the growing and aging U.S. population, the need for quality palliative care is an issue that continues to grow. This consortium allows researchers to set up gold standards for palliative care and end of life research and support efforts to build a robust and enduring resource for broader research support and training.

The University of Colorado is also proposing a new three million dollar life science complex for the Boulder campus this month. This proposal aims to build a consolidated life science building and includes plans for state-of the-art animal research laboratories in hopes of achieving an international animal research accreditation from the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC).

The proposal provides a long-term solution to the problem of aging life science buildings on Boulder’s main campus. The new integrated facility will promote efficiency and collaboration opportunities to bring the university up to AAALAC standards.

The accreditation from the AAALAC will make collaborative research between UCo and other accredited universities easier and highly cost-effective. It will also make the university more competitive in attracting research funding for the future.

In the past few years, the University of Colorado has always been among the top NIH funded institutions. The University of Colorado, Denver received $181 million in 2013 and has received $38 million so far in 2014. The University of Colorado, Boulder received $40 million in 2013 and $14 million so far in 2014.

In light of the university's new building proposal and substantial research funding, now is the best time for laboratory supply companies to present their newest products and services to this marketplace.

Researchers at the University of Colorado are eagerly seeking the best tools and technologies for their ongoing research. Our on-campus trade shows provide an excellent opportunity for researchers and lab supply companies to network and exchange information about products and services.

The BioResearch Product Faire™ Event, hosted by Biotechnology Calendar, Inc., is one of the best on-campus vendor shows at the University of Colorado, Boulder. There is a dynamic relationship between Colorado researchers and lab supply companies, and exhibitors at the 2013 BioResearch Product Faire™ Event found it to be an excellent source of sales leads.
