The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center received a donation of $20 million from Mike Bezos, a family member of Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos this April to support development of novel cancer immunotherapies. This donation is the largest single contribution in the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center’s history.
Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center has been gaining ground with its interdisciplinary teams of world-renowned scientists and excellent programs, which are discovering new methods to detect cancers earlier and developing effective treatments with fewer side effects.
Since the 1970s with Dr. E. Donnall Thomas’ pioneering work in bone marrow transplantation, researchers in the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center have been actively working on a number of breakthrough programs, including developing immunotherapies that use the immune system to defeat cancer.
Immunotherapy, which has successfully attracted Bezons’ attention and donation, has impressive results from Leukemia and Lymphoma patients. Bezons’ donation will be used to continue this research and help scientists apply their work to other kinds of cancer treatment. Researchers in the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center believe that immunotherapy will be effective for broader cancer treatments.
The eradication of cancer is an ambitious goal and a relentless pursuit, which demands that the world’s greatest minds work together. The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center’s scientists and researchers include a MacArthur fellow, three Nobel Laureates, seven members of the National Academy of Sciences, five members of the Institute of Medicine, six members of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, nine members of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and eight current and former Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigators.
With the finest scientists, the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center not only successfully attracts the private and public grants and awards, but also breeds a number of lifesaving researches and private startups as well.
Adaptive Biotechnologies, a Seattle startup that was born out of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, has successfully attracted $105 million to launch a kit that allows researchers and pharmaceutical companies to take a genetic snapshot of how a patient’s immune system responds to therapy. Juno Therapeutics, which is another startup that is incubated by the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, raised a record-breaking $120 million in December 2013, and was added $25 million in the following month in 2014.
The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center itself is an extremely well funded research marketplace. The Hutchinson Center has attracted more than $199 million grants from the NIH in 2013 and more than $62 million so far in April 2014.
Right now is probably the best time to market to academic researchers and lab managers in Seattle area. Biotechnology Calendar, Inc. is providing this opportunity to lab supply companies to network with the researchers and scientists in life science in Seattle. On August 19th 2014, Biotechnology Calendar, Inc. will hold the BioResearch Product Faire™ Event at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.
Biotechnology Calendar has been producing top quality on-campus trade show for more than 20 years. Last year, the BioResearch Product Faire™ Event at Fred Hutch attracted 140 attendees who were from 8 different research buildings and 19 on-campus departments. Of these attendees, 40 were purchasing agents and researchers, and 19 were lab managers. The participation of the Hutchinson BioResearch Product Faire™ Event will boost the attendee’s awareness of new products and technologies and help lab supply and lab research companies to increase sales in Seattle area.
