Seminar - La Jolla, CA, United States
Academic and public research institutions are continuously seeking ways to accelerate the transformation of investments in research into innovations that foster new companies or industries and provide solutions to health and environmental problems. Intellectual property is often an overlooked area in the development of new and innovative research ideas, but it is nonetheless vital in ensuring novel technology and ideas are safe from future competitors. Without IP protection, any work belonging to an organization or individual is left vulnerable to use by other users, with or without the creator's consent. In this workshop, life science patent attorney Dr. Ryan Smith will highlight some of the key processes involved in IP, covering such topics as: the different types of IP, how valuable IP can be, what IP strategies can be put in place to guarantee adequate protection in different circumstances and how to best prepare your research for patentability.
