Posted on Nov 30, 2014 3:14:11 AM

Conference - Manipal, India

Mitochondria are integral component to a cell’s life. They are involved in performing numerous interrelated functions, producing energy on one hand while also channelling cellular stress responses leading to cell death. Their dynamic nature and intricately webbed network allow them to amalgamate functionally with other organelles of a cell. Nevertheless, mitochondrial functions also extend in maintaining an organism’s physiology and of late, mitochondrial dysfunction has emerged as an important factor in numerous pathological conditions, including metabolic and neurodegenerative ailments. Hence, unveiling the basic mitochondrial functions would be an important step towards understanding the involvement of mitochondria in disease onset.
The meeting aims to provide a common platform for basic scientists and clinicians to discuss recent advances in mitochondrial biology, diagnosis and treatment of mitochondrial diseases.
