Microscale Interactions in Aquatic Environments

Symposium - Les Houches, France

Over the past two decades, there has been a growing realization that physical-biological interactions play a crucial role in the ecology of organisms in aquatic environments at a surprising range of scales, from micrometers to kilometers. Understanding both the small-scale physical-biological interactions and their implications for larger-scale processes requires an interdisciplinary effort that considers the intimate coupling of physics, chemistry, and biology that occurs at the microscale. This meeting will focus on both classical and novel key microscale themes and bring together biologists, chemists, ecologists, physicists, engineers, and mathematicians for a highly interactive workshop to stimulate this emerging field of research at an international level.
