Oregon Health and Science University recently announced that they have accumulated enough funding to fully begin construction of the new life sciences building on Portland's South Waterfront.
OHSU had originally planned to build the facility in several phases using mainly funding from the University (as reported in this blog in a May 11 post). However, thanks to over $27 million in private funding donations the project may be able to move forward with major construction within the year.

Around $19 million of the new funding came from prominent dentistry organizations. The new building will house new facilities for the OHSU dentistry program and represents a major expansion of the University's oral health research capabilities.
A-dec, Inc., a dental equipment supplier, has promised to provide cutting edge dental equipment for the new facility worth over $4.35 million. The philanthropists Gene and Bonnie Skourtes have donated $10 million, the largest single donation in the University's history. These gifts are part of a $43 million fundraising campaign that will spur growth in OHSU's research and science programs for years to come.
