Translational Control of Brain Function in Health and Disease

Translational control plays a key role in regulating synapses, the sites of communication between neurons that are essential for information storage. Aberrant neuronal translation is also implicated in a range of neuronal diseases, that includes developmental disorders such as Fragile X syndrome, and possibly autism spectrum disorders, as well as in neurodegenerative diseases. This proposed meeting will showcase the importance, as well as the unique challenges of investigating translational control in the brain. The meeting will also hopefully catalyze new studies and collaborations especially related to brain diseases. Specific topics to be discussed include: translational control of plasticity and learning and memory, RNA localization in neurons, mechanisms of translational control in the brain, RNA control of neurodegeneration and other neurological diseases, translational control in axons, and the regulation of synapses and circuits
