Exploring Human Host-Microbiome Interactions in Health and Disease

Conference - Hinxton, Cambridge, United Kingdom

The third Wellcome Trust conference on Exploring Human Host-Microbiome Interactions in Health and Disease will bring together leading scientists and clinicians from the fields of microbiology, immunology, nutrition, gastroenterology and neuroscience to discuss the latest developments in this fast developing field.

The microbiome has an essential role in health and in the development of a range of diseases including obesity, inflammatory bowel disease, psoriasis, asthma, and some neurological disorders. This meeting will focus on understanding how various microbiomes (oral, gut, skin etc.) interact with the host and the factors that influence these interactions. The programme will also explore the opportunities and challenges in translating microbiome research into benefits in public health, by examining the development of new foods, drugs and therapies that alter the microbiome. We welcome abstracts from all areas relevant to microbiome/microbiota research. Several oral presentations will be chosen from the abstracts submitted. The previous Microbiome meetings in this series were extremely popular and scientifically well received; therefore, early registration is recommended.

Sessions will include:

How can microbes improve your health?

Re-programming the microbiome

The critical steps to translational implementation

The anti-infective potential of the microbiome

Understanding why microbes dislike the host

Animals and fish: companions and food

Towards understanding microbiome constituents

Barriers to translating science to human health

Organization: Wellcome Trust
