Yeast Genetics Meeting

Research Meeting - Seattle, Washington

The biennual Yeast Genetics Meeting is the premier meeting for students, postdoctoral scholars, research staff, and principal investigators studying various aspects of eukaryotic biology in yeast, a major experimental model for understanding human cell biology and mechanisms of human disease.  This international meeting has a 40 year history and is held every two years in North America.  The meeting provides a platform for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to present their latest research.  For many, this is the first time to present to such a large audience and get feedback/input from principal investigators that they have previously only had the chance to read about in journals. Financial aid is available for graduate students and postdocs through the meeting, GSA and the FASEB MARC program.

In addition to the scientific sessions, the meeting presents the following awards/lectures:

Lifetime Achievement Award - for lifetime contributions in the field of yeast genetics and outstanding community service.

Ira Herskowitz Award - for outstanding contributions in the field of yeast research in the last 20 years. This award is usually given to scientists under 50.

Winge-Lindegren Address – a thought provoking perspective given by a leader in the field of yeast genetics.

Lee Hartwell Lecture - given by a noted researcher in the field who has used yeast in a way that has had an obvious impact on other fields.
