“Microbiome and Human Health”
This year's event is focused on the rapidly growing field devoted to the study of the human microbiome. The distinction between the human organism and our microbial partners is being blurred as we increase our appreciation of how the microbiota serves to maintain our health or when in disequilibrium drive disease. We will hear presentations that describe the microbiota associated with the human gut, skin, oral cavity and vagina as a way of illustrating the ubiquitous nature of microbes and their power to influence human health. Research efforts have already commenced that seek to harness the power of the microbes in the form of probiotics and producers of beneficial bioactive compounds.
