Science Researcher Update: Spotlight on Meetings, Conferences, and Events

Innate Immune Memory - Wellcome Trust Scientific Conference

Posted on Feb 7, 2015 1:33:00 AM

Conference - Cambridge, United Kingdom

The innate immune system has recently been shown to be instrumental in directing the adaptive immune system to eradicate pathogens and tumours. Immunological memory might not be confined to antigen-specific T- and B cells, with recent evidence sugesting that  innate immune cells also have some capacity for recalling previous encounters with pathogens or PAMPs. Dysregulation of the innate immune system can lead to unwanted inflammatory responses that can precipitate immune-mediated diseases, including autoimmunity and allergy.
This new Wellcome Trust conference will focus on our understanding of how the innate immune system is activated and regulated. We will also explore how the innate immune system can be ‘trained’ by internal and external modulators and how this might be harnessed to develop new therapies to treat inflammatory diseases, infection and cancer.
The meeting is aimed at scientists and clinicians working in immunology and related areas. We welcome the submission of abstracts from all topics relevant to the main themes of the meeting. Several oral presentations will be chosen from the abstracts submitted.

Topics will include:
Concepts in innate immune memory
Mechanisms of innate immune memory
Diseases
Infection and vaccination
