Human ES/iPS cell research

Course - Cologne, Germany

This 3.5-day training course focuses on improving ES/iPS generation, cell culture and characterization. The course covers all critical steps required for ES/iPS research. Encompassing theoretical presentations and practical lab sessions, participants will learn advanced ways of cell preparation, cell selection with magnetic cell separation and basic cell analysis with flow cytometry.

Course lectures and exercises include:

Reprogramming techniques for the generation of iPS cell lines

Characterization of pluripotent stem cells with different methods

Cultivation strategies of  pluripotent stem cells

Pluripotent stem cell differentiation

Basics of magnetic cell separation for pluripotent stem cell cultures

Basics of flow cytometry

Discussion and trouble-shooting with experienced users from R&D

Practical laboratory parts include:

Setup and maintenance of iPS cell cultures

Transfection procedure for mRNA-based reprogramming

Hands-on introduction to flow cytometry

iPS cell characterization with different methods, including flow cytometry

Magnetic separation of differentiated from undifferentiated iPS cells

Removal of feeder cells with magnetic separation

Improved dissociation of murine embryoid bodies
