An international conference that will bring together recognized experts in the phylogeny of early eukaryotes and the cell and neurobiology of the same animals, with the aim of understnading when nervous systems, as we know them first appeared, whether or not nervous systems evolved independently more than once, and where the molecules that define a nerve cell came from.
