Science Researcher Update: Spotlight on Meetings, Conferences, and Events

Keystone Symposia: Stem Cells and Cancer

Posted on Jan 10, 2014 4:20:00 PM

(J8) Keystone Symposia: Stem Cells and Cancer

Conference - Banff, Alberta, Canada

The conference will:
• Focus on a developmental view of cancer, which holds enormous potential
to enhance our understanding of cancer initiation, metastasis, progression and therapy, taking us beyond the traditional views based on a model of
aberrant disease and death;
• Explore mechanisms driving the initiation and propagation of cancer,
including the potential for normal stem cell signals active in development to be re-utilized during oncogenesis, the role of the cell of origin in the
pathogenesis of cancer, and the role of cancer stem cells in cancer propagation;
• Bring together cancer and stem cell biologists, as well as clinicians, and provide further opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaboration through the unique pairing with the joint meeting on “Developmental Pathways.”

Session Topics:
• Signaling Pathways in Stem Cells
• Shared Signals in Stem Cells and Cancer
• Cancer Cell of Origin
• Cancer Stem Cells
• Stem Cells, Development and Cancer (Joint)
• Cancer in Context: The Microenvironment and Metastasis
• New Regulatory Pathways in Cancer
• Targeting Cancer Stem Cells: Trials and Translation
plus two roundtables and a workshop on late-breaking topics
