EMBO Workshop: Cancer Stem Cells and Epigenetics

Posted on Oct 15, 2014 12:41:41 PM

Workshop - Hong Kong, China

The field of epigenetic regulation has emerged as a fundamentally important area in biological and medical research impacting both normal as well as disease development. Increasing evidence reveals that aberrant epigenetic components contribute to the unique properties of cancer stem cells, thus appear intimately linked to the development and plasticity of certain malignancies.
In contrast to chemically intractable oncogenic transcription factors, their associated epigenetic modifiers possess rigid structural domains that could be ideal targets for small molecule inhibitors, offering exciting new avenues for therapeutic targeting in various cancers.  This EMBO Workshop will bring together world-leading experts in the areas of epigenetic regulation and cancer stem cell biology to present and discuss the most recent developments and key questions in these fields.  Our major goal is to crystalize opportunities and challenges in the development of epigenetic approaches to specifically target cancer stem cells.
