Mitochondrial Disease: Translating Biology into New Treatments

Conference - Hinxton, Cambridge, United Kingdom

The last two decades have seen the emergence of mitochondrial medicine as a distinct clinical discipline. Mitochondrial disorders are notoriously difficult to diagnose and treat – but there has been a paradigm shift within the last year. The prospect of a molecular diagnosis for all patients, coupled with advances in understanding pathophysiology and treatments, has moved the field into a new “translational era”.

This exciting new conference will bring together world leaders in the field of translational mitochondrial medicine. The interactive programme is designed to engage and inspire a new generation of mitochondrial researchers, who will harness this new technology to prevent and treat these devastating diseases.

Sessions will include:
• Delivering a comprehensive molecular diagnosis for mitochondrial disorders
• Clinical mitochondrial medicine: evolving disease phenotypes
• What causes cell dysfunction and cell death?
• Finding new treatments
• Pre-clinical treatment studies in mitochondrial disease
• Recent success treating and preventing disease
