EFIS-EJI Course: Novel Vaccination Strategies Against the Three Major Killers

Course - Castellammare di Stabia (Naples), Italy

The latest news on Malaria, Tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, and vaccine development in general. An intensive, informal, interactive advanced course by top staff from research and industry, with high attendance by Africans working in the field. Directors: SHE Kaufmann (Berlin) and F Chiodi (Stockholm).

The four-day course will review aspects of the immunology of Malaria, Tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS which are important for vaccine development and discuss how host protective immunity can be translated into design and development of novel vaccines. Basic platform for vaccine development will also be presented and related to the need to vaccinate individuals co-infected with Tuberculosis and HIV in developing countries. Information will be provided on the scientific platforms for the vaccines under clinical trial, and on how biomarkers support vaccine development.

The course is intended for young PhD and MD students and early post-docs from Europe, Africa, and the world who are interested in research, training, and education of these important diseases.
