2013 has been an exciting year in our southwest division for our Biotechnology trade shows. After a successful and busy week in Colorado (6/17-6/21) that included 5 shows, it's time to look ahead to an emerging opportunity in Utah (8/15).
The University of Utah, located in Salt Lake City in the foothills of the Wasatch Range, is the flagship institution of higher learning in Utah. Founded in 1850, it educates more than 33,000 students from across the United States and the world.
The campus has been upgraded with a new $50.4 million student life center, aimed to provide a better experience for the students. The University of Utah is also recognized as the largest purchaser of green power in the PAC-12 Conference. According to the National Science Foundation, the University of Utah's R&D expenditures in life sciences exceeds $235 million a year. In the 2012 fiscal year, the University of Utah received over $135 million in new NIH research grants. The University also recently opened the L.S. Skaggs Pharmacy Institute. This 150,000sf research building will continue to advance drug development and teaching excellences.
Ranking as one of the 100 great hospitals in America, the University Hospital opened in 1965 and has since grown to include more than 1,000 University of Utah physicians trained in 200 medical specialties. As one of the few academic medical centers in the Intermountain West area, the hospital continues to expand its presence in and around Salt Lake City. Having opened its multi-specialty center in January 2012, its $200 million patient care pavilion three years prior, and a health and wellness center in 2008. HealthGrades ranked University Hospital as the best in the Salt Lake City region in 2012 based on overall patient experience.

At the Salt Lake City BioResearch Product Faire™, you can participate in this vibrant research and development marketplace.
Last year, our BioResearch Product Faire™ at the University of Utah attracted 200 researchers. Of these attendees 56 were purchasing agents, professors, and post docs, and 20 were lab managers. These attendees came from 15 different research buildings and 28 departments around campus. Including:biochemistry, biology, cardiology, human genetics, medicinal chemistry, molecular biology, neurology, pathology and pharmaceutical chemistry.
