Conference - Brno, Czech Republic

In March 1865 Gregor Johann Mendel presented the results of his experiments in monastery garden started back in 1854 in order to answer a long standing question of hybridization. This work was published year later in “Versuche über Pflanzen-Hybriden” (“Experiments in Plant Hybrids”), which establishes him firmly as the founder of genetics. He studied many genera of plants, is best known for his research on garden peas. His choice of a single species together with application of quantitative methods in a theoretical framework was fundamental to his success. The aim of this conference is to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Mendel´s discovery by presenting broad range of current plant genetics as well as to show the progress made on Mendel´s experimental model species, pea in particular.
