San Diego Scientists Seek Laboratory Products at Vendor Show

You may know that Biotechnology Calendar, Inc. has been bringing life science researchers and laboratory supply vendors together for 19 years now, but did you know that we began in San Diego with the UCSD Biotechnology Vendor Showcase™ Event?  This showcase is still one of the largest on-campus networking events for scientific research and lab product suppliers.  Each year it draws an enthusiastic annual following of Laboratory product supply companies and top-level research scientists.  This year the Biotechnology Vendor Showcase™ Event at the University of California, San Diego is expected to attract over 700 university scientists who will be there to actively seek new products and services for their life science research programs.

Last year this UCSD event attracted over 750 academic researchers seeking new and improved technologies for their ongoing research programs. 

• Exhibitor’s surveys from the 2011 Biotechnology Vendor Showcase revealed that on average,  124 researchers viewed products at each booth and/or viewed product demonstrations.
• Of those visits, exhibitors reported an average of 29 researchers showed significant purchasing interest in the products that were being offered by that exhibitor.
• Exhibitors reported an average product value of $6,118 for goods and services presented at this event.

Show participants came from multiple departments across the UCSD campus.  Departments that had the largest numbers of scientists in attendance included:

• 78 researchers attended from the Bioengineering Department
• 117 research scientist participated from the Biology Department
• 25 Biomedical researchers arrived to view products from the Biomedical Sciences Department
• 40 scientists came from the Cellular and Molecular Medicine Department
• 74 chemists attended from the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department
• 107 Research specialists came from the Department of Medicine
• 45 research scientists visited from the Neurosciences Department
• 29 researchers came from the Pathology Department
• 28 scientists came from the Pediatrics Department
• 47 Researchers attended from the Pharmacology Department

Consider this information on the UCSD campus:

• In 2011, UC San Diego received close to $960M in scientific research endowments.
• Expenditures for the entire university totaled $3,007,186,000
