Next Generation Sequencing Workshop

Course - Cambridge, United Kingdom

This course is aimed at molecular biologists who wish to gain new skills in the analysis of high-throughput DNA sequencing data. The programme will cover various EBI databases and resources, and third-party software for the analysis, interpretation and storage of genetic sequence data. Using a combination of lectures, hands-on practical sessions and discussions with trainers, you will learn how to manipulate NGS data, analyse the results of different experiments and utilise sequence databases from the EBI.

By the end of this course you will be able to:

-Navigate the major databases at the EBI needed for NGS
-Understand the differences between the major nucleotide sequence databases
-Browse the ENA database in detail; understand its structure and the type of data it contains.
-Utilize different ways to access sequence data from EBI resources
-Understand the basis of CRAM and the need for data compression
-Use techniques to generate and analyse RNA-Seq data
-Comprehend the different tools involved in whole genome re-sequencing, assembly and variation calling
-Utilize these tools to conduct simple re-sequencing assemblies
-Comprehend the techniques used to generate and analyse ChIP-Seq data Use the MACS and PeakAnalyzer utilities to discover immuno-enriched areas in ChIP-Seq data
-Understand the varied applications of NGS data analysis and how it is being used to answer interesting scientific questions
