30th International Congress of Psychology – ICP 2012

 Congress - Cape Town, Spain

ICP 2012 is the 30th in the series of Congresses, the first being held in Paris in 1889. That these Congresses have endured for so long is cause for celebration in its own right, but if we return to the theme of time passing, we can also be sure that ICP 2012 will be very different to that of 1889. From probably no more than a few dozen participants in 1889, representing a limited number of countries, we are expecting several thousand participants in Cape Town, with a strong representation from all corners of the world.

Certainly, this Congress is an experience not to be missed. Not only does it offer an amazing wealth of scientific knowledge and opportunity for scientific exchange, as well as a specific programme for emerging scientists, and pre-congress attractions, such as the Advanced  Research Training Seminars (ARTS). it also offers a remarkable cultural programme that will allow us to get to know the country, its people, and one another better.

Indeed, the combination of a rich scientific programme set in a vibrant context offering endless  possibilities to explore unique world heritage sites, such as Table Mountain, or even perhaps those further afield, like the Cradle of Humankind, where the 2.3 million year-old   remains of Australopithecus were discovered, is likely to mean that attending this ICP will be truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Organised around the theme Psychology Serving Humanity, and committed to   presenting new frontiers of psychological science and its application as a means for improving, developing and enriching society, the Congress presents topics and issues that apply to all of us, but - I am happy to say – it also offers topics with particular relevance for particular regions of the world, such as Africa.
