Hyundai Hope On Wheels, a non-profit organization of Hyundai dealers in Washington, D.C., has awarded MedStar Georgetown University Hospital a $75,000 Hyundai Clinical Award. In 2013, Hope On Wheels will give a total of $14 million to children’s hospitals and expects to surpass $72 million in donations since 1998. According to WUSA 9, the award will go to Dr. Aziza T. Shad for developing the Clinical Psychosocial Distress Screening Initiative for pediatric cancer patients and their families.

"We are thrilled to have received funding from 'Hyundai Hope on Wheels' for our Psychosocial Distress Screening Program. The importance of early identification of distress and psychosocial stressors in the lives of young cancer patients and their families cannot be overemphasized as these stressors can escalate over time and potentially complicate medical care," said Director of the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Dr. Aziza Shad, MD. "In keeping with the recommendations of the Institute of Medicine, this screening initiative will allow us to identify psychosocial problems early in children who are currently being treated for cancer as well as in our cancer survivors and their families. The Hyundai Programmatic Clinical Award will enable us to do research and use the insights of our cancer survivors and their families to develop appropriate interventions to improve coping and quality of life for patients and their families."
