Many of these sites have significant yearly funding (see our recent Science Market Update on our NY blog posts). In our September 28 blog on Rockefeller, we reported the following funding information.
In 2012, the NIH research funding for Rockefeller University topped $57,430,443, with the money being divided between 109 investigators and their teams. In fact, the Top 6 NIH funded Rockefeller investigators each received over $2.5M for their research projects:
- Barry S. Coller, Laboratory of Blood and Vascular Biology (4 grants) -- $8,275,940
- Michael P. Rout, Laboratory of Cellular and Structural Biology (4 grants) -- $4,864,368
- Charles M. Rice, Laboratory of Virology and Infectious Disease (7 grants) -- $3,957,485
- Paul Greengard, Laboratory of Molecular and Cellular Neuroscience (2 grants) -- $3,453,381
- Michel C. Nussenzweig, Laboratory of Molecular Immunology (4 grants) -- $2,844,761
- Jean-Laurent Casanova, St. Giles Laboratory of Human Genetics of Infectious Diseases (5 grants) -- $2,691,125
In addition, we recently reported that The Clinical & Translational Science Center (CTSC) headquartered at Manhattan's Weill Cornell Medical College just received a $49.6M renewal of its 5-year grant by the NIH's National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) in order to continue its work. Launched seven years ago, the CTSC began the now successful integration of inter-institutional resources among it's neighbors on York Avenue and the surrounding area. With the help of the CTSC, New York's East Side institutions were able to form a unique and cohesive biomedical complex collectively dedicated to accelerating the clinical application of basic science discoveries.
