MSU Vendor Show Gets High Attendance From Well Funded Research Market

Biotechnology Calendar Inc.™ recently hosted our 2nd annual Michigan State Bioresearch Product Faire™ Front Line™ event on July 12 and it was such a success that we decided to spotlight the show in this blog. The MSU vendor show, one of our newer events, surpassed expectations to display all the characteristics of a stellar vendor show. Here are some facts and figures on the MSU show:

• 295 researchers attended, nearly twice the expected attendance and a significant increase from last years statistics.
• Of these attendees 39 were professors, post docs and purchasing agents,  and 41 were lab managers. The other attendees were research associates and postgraduate students.

Based on exhibitor surveys, companies reported that the MSU vendor show proved to be a high quality investment:

• On average companies reported that 63 researchers visited their booths and of these 9 were high quality leads. That's 1 lead for every 7 booth viewers!
• The average exhibitor rating for their overall experience at the show was 4.5 stars out of 5.

But enough about us, we also felt it was necessary to shine a spotlight on the well funded and growing research marketplace at MSU. Just a glance at this graph from their Funding Facts and Figures, 2010‐11 report reveals the strength of MSU Research:

Michigan State displays a well funded research market. They were ranked 59th nationwide in life science spending in a 2009 NSF study with nearly $212 million in life science R&D expenditures. Here are a few profiles of the most significant recent life science grant, also from the Funding Facts and Figures, 2010‐11 report.

• $142 million over five years from the Department of Energy for the Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center (GLBRC), a consortium with University of Wisconsin‐Madison and other universities and industry. MSU leads on sustainability.

• Over $75 million from the NIH to oversee and administer Michigan's role in the National Children's Study, the largest human health study ever undertaken.

• $25 million from the NSF for a Science and Technology Center for the Study of Evolution in Action (BEACON: Bio/computational Evolution in Action CONsortium). Four other universities are partners.
