High funding levels and strong research programs show that San Antonio is a leader in the Biomedical Research fields.
University of Texas San Antonio Health Science Center (UTHSCSA) is a strong force in the life science market place. The university operates with an annual endowment of $405 million and is currently the fourteenth largest medical school in the nation. This campus ranks among the highest in the United States in terms of biomedical research, and has enacted a strategic plan to become “a globally recognized biomedical research university.”
The University of Texas, San Antonio has had a 34 percent increase in research funding over last year, and received more than $203 million in external funding.
UTHSCSA has an $11.6 million, five year contract with the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, for a specific blood test to diagnose heart failure in attack survivors.
