Conference - Saxtons River, VT, United States
This FASEB Science Research Conference (SRC) focuses on new insights into in our understanding of how lipid-modified proteins and membrane microdomains promote normal physiological processes, and emphasizing important roles in major human disorders. Topics will include: Enzymology of lipidation and associated enzymes; acylation enzymes in disease; prenylation and isoprenoids in disease; GPI-linked proteins ? biology and enzymology; regulatory aspects of protein palmitoylation; control of S-acylation; lipid trafficking and membrane dynamics in disease states; Ras/Rho trafficking in disease and; the structural biology of lipidation. The 2015 meeting brings together a broad range of leading investigators from across the globe working from the level of single proteins to complex disease. We aim to highlight the inter-disciplinary approach and how major advances in biophysical, proteomic, imaging, modeling and therapeutic approaches are transforming the field. A large number of short talks will be selected from submitted abstracts and a wide range of poster, platform presentation, discussion forums and recreational activities will provide all participants extensive opportunities to exchange new ideas and forge new collaborations. We particularly wish to encourage the participation of new and more junior researchers in the field and are securing additional support to provide PhD/postdoc travel scholarships and awards. There will be multiple opportunities for PhDs and postdocs to present and discuss their work including at poster sessions, short talks and short oral 'research snapshots' to highlight their submitted abstracts in 2 minutes. In addition, we have organized a number of events for junior colleagues to explore career opportunities and 'Meet the expert' sessions for informal round table discussions with research leaders. The program thus aims to facilitate collaboration and exchange of ideas in a supportive and highly interdisciplinary environment for participants at all stages of their career. Our aim is to inspire new innovations and research directions in the rapidly expanding and dynamic field of protein lipidation, signaling and membrane domains.
