Diabetes: New Insights into Molecular Mechanisms & Therapeutic Strategies

The prevalence of type 2 diabetes is rising to epidemic proportions worldwide. This meeting presents the latest discoveries in diabetes research, highlighting essential aspects of the disease, as well as emerging themes that are likely to provide novel therapeutic approaches. The major topics of the meetings are: Islet Dysfunction; Gut Biology and Systemic Metabolism; CNS Control of Metabolism; Adipocyte Biology; Insulin Resistance; Genetics and Epigenetics; Diabetes and Healthy Lifespan and Regenerative Medicine. The ultimate goal for the meeting is to provide a forum that encourages attendees from both the academic and pharmaceutical communities to communicate and exchange ideas to facilitate an integrative understanding of pathogenesis and development of therapeutic strategies for prevention and treatment of diabetes. Scientific organizers of the conference are Drs. Takashi Kadowaki of the Graduate School of Medicine at the University of Tokyo, Juleen R. Zierath of Karolinska Institutet, Nobuya Inagaki of Kyoto University and Barbara B. Kahn of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School.
