3rd Global Science Conference on Climate Smart Agriculture

Written by Stela BCI | Feb 3, 2015 3:25:00 PM

Conference - Montpellier, France

This is a follow-up of two earlier Global Science Conferences on Climate-Smart Agriculture, organized in Wageningen (Netherlands, 2011) and Davis (California, 2013). The conference is organized through a collaboration between France (CIRAD, INRA and IRD), University of California at Davis, Wageningen University and the Climate Change Agriculture and Food Security program (CCAFS) of the CGIAR. It is also linked to several science and policy initiatives:
- The Global Research Alliance on agricultural greenhouse gases (www.globalresearchalliance.org ),
- AgMIP (Agricultural Models Intercomparison and Improvement, www.agmip.org )
- FACCE JPI (European Joint Programing of Research on Agriculture, Food Security and Climate Change, www.faccejpi.com)
- The Alliance on Climate Smart Agriculture (http://climate-l.iisd.org/news/global-conference-paves-the-way-to-an-alliance-on-climate-smart-agriculture ),
Five objectives are identified:
1. Updating the science basis,
2. Showcasing key scenarios for agriculture and food systems,
3. Identifying priorities for early action,
4. Interfacing with policy fora through the integration of key research issues,
5. Designing a roadmap to move forward and identify an action plan.
