Of his move from the East to the West Coast, Dr. Holland had this to say in a recent press release:
"I am thrilled at the prospect of working with the world’s leading experts in genome sciences, computational biology and those involved in the development of novel platforms for delivering innovative therapies to cancer patients. The highly collaborative, multidisciplinary nature of cancer research at Fred Hutch and UW Medicine provides a solid foundation to build on.”
In addition to setting up his new research lab at Fred Hutch, one of Dr. Holland's other pressing tasks when he arrives in Seattle will be to recruit 6 additional lab research scientists to UW Medicine's Alvord Brain Tumor Center. The interdisciplinary center that Holland will develop is the product of 6 endowed chairs made possible by the family of the late Dr. Buster Alvord, a UW professor of pathology and neurosurgeon for over 40 years. In his time at MSKCC, Holland is credited with establishing the very successful Brain Tumor Center uniting brain cancer research and clinical care at MSKCC. UW looks forward to a seeing a similarly strong brain tumor translational research program develop in Seattle's life science community under Holland's leadership.
